Disinfection Services

Honolulu, Hawaii

We all know how important it is to clean our homes, but what about disinfecting them? Disinfection is the process of killing viruses and bacteria on surfaces or within an object. There are two types: chemical disinfectants that use chemicals such as chlorine bleach, alcohols, phenolic, quaternary ammonium compounds and fragrances; and physical methods like ultraviolet light.

Disinfect your home with a strong cleaner

Disinfection is the destruction of disease-causing microorganisms to prevent or control epidemics and other health hazards.’ Disinfectants are used for such purposes. Disinfectants are chemical substances that reduce the number of harmful microorganisms in a contaminated material. Disinfectants may be used as topical agents (i.e., applied only to certain surfaces), usually on inanimate objects, or they may be used as direct contact agents (i.e., applied directly to living body surfaces). Disinfecting medical instruments are referred to as instrument disinfection. Disinfectant chemicals can also be incorporated into paper products like toilet paper, hand towel, and bath tissue for use in hospitals as a means of killing infectious organisms that lurk in the general area of the toilet. Disinfectants are also used to control disease-carrying vermin such as flies, and (in combination with insecticides) mosquitoes that can transmit malaria or dengue fever. Disinfectant is a generic term for any substance or device used to kill microorganisms. Infection Control Disinfection: Disinfection with soap disinfectants kills pathogens beneath the skin and on mucous membranes of eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc., Disinfection provides mechanical barriers which inhibits transmission of infectious agents by physical contact Disinfection does not necessarily kill all microorganisms

remaining after cleaning Disinfectants should be selected carefully based on their ability to concentrate on critical areas Disinfection is one of the most important means of controlling nosocomial infections Disinfectants used for environmental disinfection are usually those which have no persistent toxic or sensitizing effect Disinfection is effective against vegetative bacteria in all stages Disinfectants applied to objects and surfaces are absorbed into and within a short time, become unavailable.

Disinfectants as a class are broad-spectrum and relatively non-toxic Disinfection is an essential component of the infection control programs.

Clean and disinfect all surfaces with a bleach solution

It is important to clean and disinfect all surfaces with a bleach solution. Disinfection kills germs, but it does not remove dirt. Cleaning removes germs and dirt from inanimate objects like doorknobs, countertops, etc. Disinfecting is an important part of protecting against getting sick when your immune system is at its weakest (when you are recovering from surgery).

Public Health Department recommends the following steps to clean and disinfect surfaces:

– Disinfect all hard non-porous surfaces (like floors, countertops, tables) with a bleach solution. Use 10 milliliters (ml) of household liquid bleach per 1 litre (L) of water. To make this solution, combine the bleach and water in a clean spray bottle.

– Clean all hard, nonporous surfaces with soap and water or regular household disinfectants. Disinfect all hard, nonporous surface areas before you have any visitors.

– Disinfect all soiled soft/ porous surfaces with bleach (use 10 ml of household liquid bleach per 1 l of cold water). Disinfect bathroom fixtures like toilet seats and flush handles as well as telephone receivers, doorknobs, light switches etc.

To make the cleaning solution for these materials:

# Use 12 mL of general-purpose cleaner containing alcohol or 2 teaspoonfuls of phenolic disinfectant per litre of warm water OR # Use 20 mL of general-purpose cleaner containing alcohol or 4 teaspoon.fuls of phenolic disinfectant per litre of warm water OR # Use 1/2 cup (125 mL) of bleach per litre of warm water.

Clean soiled soft/ porous surfaces, such as bed linen, with a detergent or disinfectant solution and rinse well in cold tap water. Dispose of all cleaning materials in the garbage. Do not use cleaning materials to clean hard nonporous surfaces like sinks and toilets. Clean these areas with soap and hot tap water and wipe off residue with paper towels to avoid splashing during cleanup. Disinfect them using one of the methods recommended above.)

Use clean clothes and linens to avoid spreading germs

Clean clothes and linens can help prevent the spread of disease. Disinfection with chlorine kills many infectious agents in contaminated fabrics. However, before laundering items contaminated with blood or bodily fluids, ensure they are thoroughly washed by themselves, rinsed several times in hot water (at least 130 F), and dried at high temperature for a minimum of 60 minutes. Clothing or linens that cannot be disinfected should be discarded as medical waste. Disinfectant products for fabrics are also available; follow the manufacturer’s directions. Disposal of medical waste should be in accordance with local and state regulations.

Though seldom used, autoclaving is one of the best ways to disinfect fabrics; it uses high-temperature steam under pressure. Disinfection using 1-5 minutes at 134 F (57 C) for cotton and linen items is quite effective against most germs that may be found on clothing or linens. Using this method along with changing hospital protocols can help reduce the risk of spreading infection. Disposable garments are now commonly used in surgical procedures as a means of reducing the risk of cross contamination from reuse and improve patient safety. Disposable garments offer some benefit in terms of preventing needlestick injuries, but studies have shown little improvement in regards to Surgical Site Infections (SSIs).

Wash your hands before you eat, cook, or prepare food

Hi, I’m Dr. Disinfectant and I get really mad whenever I see people bypass the hand-washing station and start eating food without first washing their hands with soap or detergent. Disgusting! Take it from me, your Disinfectant Hero: Wash your hands before you eat, cook, or prepare food. Disgusting!

Disinfectants are everywhere in our homes, and they can help us avoid foodborne illnesses. Disgusting! Disinfectants like chlorine bleach or iodine solution can clean up kitchen messes to prevent germs from spreading. Disgusting! If you don’t disinfect occasionally, it’s very easy to get sick after eating leftovers, especially if someone vomited on them or handled a raw chicken without washing their hands first. Disgusting! Disinfecting is also great for cleaning countertops or other surfaces that food touches before serving. Disgusting! Thank you for your attention; please do not hesitate to share this article with your family and friends so they too will be inspired to wash their hands before eating.

whenever YOU eat food after handling raw meat without washing your hands with soap or detergent first. Disgusting! Take it from me, your Disinfectant Hero: Wash your hands very thoroughly with soap for at least 20 seconds before you touch uncooked meat, fish, eggs, or poultry.

Avoid touching your face as often as possible

There are some people who claim to never touch their faces at all. They say that they’ve made it a habit to not even touch the area around their mouths in order to reduce bacteria transfer and spread germs. While we don’t advocate for this practice, we do think there should be more emphasis placed on reducing germ exposure through the hands by washing them after each trip to the bathroom, before preparing food, and before touching your face. Avoiding the spread of germs from your hands to other parts of your body is a good idea.

Tap water is usually safe to drink in the United States, but there are some countries where its use should be avoided completely. Avoid touching your face as often as possible. It’s best to avoid public water fountains when you can and get a clean supply of drinking water from somewhere else if you’re abroad. Also, make sure you thoroughly wash any fruits or vegetables before eating them because they could be covered with bacteria that could cause illness or food poisoning if eaten.

Avoid using a public toilet if you can and opt for the use of a private one instead because germs are likely to be more prevalent in public restrooms. Avoid touching your face as often as possible, unless it’s absolutely necessary to do so (such as scratching an itch). Avoid touching your face as often as possible. If you must pick something up off the ground, avoid putting it in your mouth or near your eyes by using gloves or another object instead of directly handling what you mean to pick up. Avoid touching your face as often as possible and keep clean! Avoid touching your face as often as possible while traveling!
